At the top of the world

Faculty member Dr Donald John Maclean has successfully scaled 5 of the UK's 6 highest mountains in a charity walk lasting 22 hours.

Westminster's Adjunct Professor of Historical Theology has completed the Cairngorm 4000s challenge in a charity walk that pushed him and his team to their limits. Climbing through the day and into the early hours of the next morning, Dr Donald John Maclean walked across Scotland's most mountainous region for 22 hours, ascending a total of 8,200ft and covering 35.5km.

The challenge was completed to raise funds for AGE UK, the UK's largest charity supporting the needs of older people.

“All around are reminders of the creative power and majesty of God which draws out praise and also humbles us as we realise our own relative weakness - especially after 22 hours of walking!”

Reflecting on the experience, Dr Maclean told us, “This was probably the toughest challenge I have done. Five of the size highest mountains in the UK in a single day is a big ask—but the day created memories that will last and was thoroughly enjoyable.”

“It is always wonderful being out in the mountains. All around are reminders of the creative power and majesty of God which draws out praise and also humbles us as we realise our own relative weakness—especially after 22 hours of walking!”

Our warmest congratulations to Dr Maclean and his team—and a plea from his seminary students that he doesn't add this challenge to the course requirements!
