First Annual Commencement

Updated: Jun 11, 2021

On Wednesday 19thJune WPTS celebrated its first annual commencement ceremony. This special occasion marked the graduation of Florian Weicken on completion of his four year M.Div degree.

The Seminary Dean and President, Revd Dr Bill Schweitzer, informed the gathered congregation that WPTS was the only Seminary committed to confessional Presbyterianism in England. He expressed his vision of many men being trained for confessional Presbyterian Church planting ministry in post-Christian Britain and Europe. WPTS hopes, in God’s good purpose, to be at the forefront of this good work for many years to come.

In his address, our Professor of Historical and Systematic Theology, Revd Dr Ian Hamilton, spoke from 2 Corinthians 4 about how Christ-centred preaching and godly character are to be central to a minister’s work. We much make much of Christ and little of ourselves for we have the treasure of the gospel in jars of clay (V7).

The graduation ceremony was attended by various friends of the Seminary and well- wishers who enjoyed a buffet lunch afterwards. We pray that this will be the first of many such occasions with a steady stream of men being sent out as gospel preachers.

Ancient Church History lectures

Our commencement coincided with the beginning of the new academic year in the seminary. We are delighted that Dr Hamilton was able to deliver a course of lectures on Ancient Church History to a cohort of four students who will begin their studies in earnest over the coming months. These lectures reminded us that Christ has always had a Church on earth, and that our spiritual forefathers greatly prized truth concerning the Trinity, the Person of Christ and the Church, even amidst great persecution. You can listen to some of Dr. Hamilton’s teaching on this subject here.
